Description
The shield is constructed of all steel with three golden lions against a red field. The shield has reinforced double steel backed edges and triple reinforced corners. On the back of the shield is a chain to hang it for display. Please note that this shield no longer comes with the handle or arm strap.
This is the "Lion Heart" Series shields. The coat of arms in the center of the shield are Richard the Lion Hearts three lions. The Back ground of the shield is a red field. The shield is less ornate but more functional with double steel reinforced sides and triple reinforced corners.
While Richard Plantagenet is revered as one of the great warrior kings of England, he is perhaps best known as "the absent king." This is due to the fact that during his reign from 1189-1199, he spent a total of six months in England. This aside Richard I was well known for his bravery which earned him the nickname "The Lionheart". A name that has reached epic and mythological proportions, best seen in literary works such as Robin Hood and Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe.
