Ivanhoe is a novel by Sir Walter Scott. It was written in 1819 and set in 12th century England, an example of historical fiction. Ivanhoe is sometimes given credit for helping to increase popular interest in the Middle Ages in 19th century Europe and America. John Henry Newman claimed that Scott "had first turned men's minds in the direction of the middle ages," while Carlyle and Ruskin made similar claims to Scott's overwhelming influence over the revival, due primarily to the publication of this novel. The sword overall length is 41 inches, the blade of the swordis 440 Stainless Steel. The sword comes unsharpened. The guard is built solid with Ivanhoe's coat of arms in the center. A complex pattern decorates each arm of the guard. The handle is spiral brass wrapped with a solid pommel featuring a Lion's head.
