Description

The blade of the Main Gauche is 440 stainless steel with a cutout ricasso and fuller. The edge of the blade is slightly sharpened. The scabbard is wooden with an imitation black leather wrap. The drag and scabbard throat are bright polished steel with a scroll work design. A belt bolt rests on the scabbard throat. The guard is the "S" design guard with long cross arms. The quillon features a ring design.  The handle is wire wrapped. The pommel is polished steel with a sun burst and scroll work.

The Main Gauche first came into being during the Renaissance at the height of the Rapiers' use. It was a dagger created specifically to deflect thrust attacks from swords. The Main Gauche could also be used as a weapon when an opening presented itself. In French the words Main Gauche translates to "left hand."
