Description
The blade of the sword is 440 stainless steel with a unsharpened edge and really sharp tip. The blade also features a mirror finish. The scabbard of the sword is wooden covered with black imitation leather. The end cap of the sword is steel with a detailed picture of a Roman soldier and the eagle of Rome inside a temple. A second steel fitting is found in the upper half of the blade. At the scabbard throat is the last steel fitting depicting the meeting of Roman politicians. The two fittings at the beginning of the scabbard have a loop for a carrying string. The guard of the sword is oval and short but very heavy and durable. A pattern of leaves surrounds a picture of horse and cart on each side of the guard. The handle of the sword is ribbed steel, one for each finger. The handle ends in a large pommel, heavily weighted to give the sword the proper balance. The bottom half of the pommel is a leaf pattern while the top part is the eagle of Rome. The pommel ends in an ornate point.
This is the Gladius, the sword of the Roman Soldier. This sword was short and to the point. Mostly used for stabbing motions, the Gladius was a vicious and bloodthirsty companion. The skill required to wield this sword and live to old age is incomprehensible to most now a days. This was the right hand of the power of Rome.
This sword is a beautiful reproduction of the Gladius. Great attention was paid to the detail of the scenes on the scabbard and handle. The blade is mirror finished and comes sharpened. This sword is perfect for collectors, theaters, and enthusiasts.
